This gorgeous little meme is something that the lovely Sheila has been keeping strong with over at her blog Book Journey.
It is the one day in the week where all of us book lovers can come together share what we are reading and add books to our forever growing To Be Read lists!
Sometimes I warn you this meme is detrimental to your wallet and book shelves however there are some awesome people out there so GET INVOLVED 😀
STILL LISTENING TO
Last week was not a terribly eventful week for me on the book front.
On the positive side I have been trying to squeeze in some listening so I am making progress on my current audio book!
A LITTLE NOTE FROM AUDIBLE!
On Thursday 5th June it is the London launch of #run2workday. Audible is supporting this great initiative and giving away a free audio download from a fantastic selection of books. This is in partnership with The Evening Standard.
The #run2workday initiative, which will kick off with a London launch on 5 June, is a nationwide campaign designed to inspire people to make running part of their everyday routine and to get London moving this summer. It will encourage Londoners to run to work instead of driving or using public transport, and to donate their usual fare to the Evening Standard’s partner charity, The Dispossessed Fund.
As official partner of the #run2workday scheme, Audible will offering a free audiobook download to all those who sign up to take part, with no strings attached. Runners will be able to select a download from Audible’s extensive catalogue of over 100,000 titles, ensuring hours of listening to keep them motivated and entertained as they run.
Runners World, the UK’s largest running magazine, recently partnered with Audible to examine how listening to Audible audiobooks affected the performance of long-distance runners*. Almost three-quarters of users said that listening to audiobooks made running more enjoyable and 1 in 5 found that listening to audiobooks made them run more often. 4 out of 5 said they would be likely, or very likely to continue using audiobooks in the future, and the same proportion said they would recommend listening to audiobooks to a friend or family member who runs.
In the run-up to the first #run2workday, Audible will also take ownership of ‘Run Hub’, Runners World’s online community. ‘Run Hub’ is an interactive running channel that enables users to log runs, join groups, diarise training schedules, share information and take part in new challenges every month. Audible is taking over the monthly challenge for the next two months, with June’s challenge being to run2work.
Laurence Howell, Director of Content at Audible.co.uk said: “Audible was founded by a runner, who realised that long-form storytelling was the perfect companion to a long run. Ever since then, some of Audible’s most dedicated listeners have been members of the running community, who rely on audiobooks to entertain and motivate them on the road. We are delighted to be involved in the #run2workday scheme and hope that people will be inspired to start pounding the pavements, and realise that it’s also a great opportunity to enjoy a good book!”
