The Back of The Book

‘Gideon calls me his angel, but he’s the miracle in my life. My gorgeous, wounded warrior, so determined to slay my demons while refusing to face his own. The vows we’d exchanged should have bound us tighter than blood and flesh. Instead they opened up old wounds, exposed pain and insecurities, and lured bitter enemies out of the shadows.

I felt him slipping from my grasp; my greatest fears becoming my reality; my love tested in ways I wasn’t sure I was strong enough to bear. At the brightest time in our lives, the darkness of his past encroached and threatened everything we’d worked so hard for.

We faced a terrible choice: the familiar safety of the lives we’d had before each other or the fight for a future that suddenly seemed an impossible and hopeless dream . . .’

My Thoughts

Welcome back to the world of Dark & Dangerous. Eva and Gideon’s high-flying life of sexual anticipation and psychological deviation opens up to us sharing the next step of their joint adventure. Sylvia Day really is a master of mass market erotic fiction and this book is most definitely not a deviation from the usual hot and heavy pattern followed in previous books.

If you have yet to pick up a copy of Bared to You then NOW is the time to read it and the others! Gideon and Eva’s salaciously sexual tales are not one for the prudes out there as even I became red-faced whilst listening and reading this part of the series. One of the benefits of listening to parts of this book was the ability to let my imagination run a little further when listening to the rough low tones of the male reading Gideon’s parts of the book.

Every other chapter was read from the point of view of Gideon or Eva, this was a great way to take in the story as it gave more of a well-rounded version of the story. The only downside of listening was whenever the female narration took over and she read the male parts of the chapter her voice was slightly annoying. The way around this was reading the female parts and listening to Gideon’s chapters. Sorted!

Although the storyline seems to jump around a bit the majority is extremely easy to keep up with and not too predictable. Between the pleasure they give each other and the pain they suffer through the consuming love they share this story goes stride in stride with the young troubled couple and introduces you to yet another part of their dynamic lives together. In each book the title does make an appearance and this book really does show just how captivated by each other the young couple are.

This book really shows Gideon opening up and trusting Eva more with his life – past and present. Although he is like a wild bear when losing control with the trust forever growing his control parameters are stretching to include his wife. Gideon’s vulnerability is there for the world to see and he is hanging on by a thread wondering whether his world will come crashing down or get slowly better. With Eva’s past under control Gideon’s starts to rear up and pushes many buttons that always lead to sexual encounters that will make you want to run to the bedroom and well – enough said.

Unlike other mass market erotica despite the use of the word irritating use of the word ‘sex’ in place of vagina or c . . . it is most definitely not overused and put in just at the right time. Whenever sex takes over the current scene of reading the description is ferociously raw but incredibly sincere. So much so when either read or listened senses are heightened.

Overall this is a book that I can see myself reading again in the near future after re-reading the others of course. Most definitely worth the time to read – although be prepared that you will be ignoring your daily life whilst the story takes over as it really will captivate you and keep you in place. It really is a touching story of a couple that would do literally anything for each other and to keep each other.
