A Bright(on) Afternoon

The week before last myself and Catherine went along to the opening of Collectif’s new Brighton store. As both of us absolutely LOVE Brighton we decided to make an afternoon of it and funnily enough not even making it to the Pavilion this time. Instead we headed to Kensington Gardens for a spot of shopping and a look around Snoopers Paradise. After meandering through this glorious shop in a shop in a shop (!) we weaved our way through quite a large selection of second-hand book shops. The amalgamation of both shops was indeed paradise for us both. Here are some pictures of the day.

lost in thought

Kensington Gardens was just wonderful and as mentioned above Snoopers Paradise and all of those book shops were just awesome!

to be worn again

To Be Worn Again is one of the shops close to Snoopers Paradise and outside it had a rail of fabulous sale items that Catherine revelled in when she found a beautiful dress that she quickly went in to try before she bought. You can see it HERE on her post about our day.

foodies at pho

After a long afternoon trawling through hidden gems we were quite hungry so we started out search for food. We both agreed that we wanted to try something different from the usual Pizza Express, Jamie’s or Wagamama’s! Enter Pho! Vietnamese Street Food at it’s best. In the spirit of trying new things we both had a starter and then picked a dish we had never eaten before. My choice of starter was lovely however the main course is one that I will never repeat again – unless I lose my taste buds any time soon. I loved the idea that you were able to add greens, bean sprouts and other things to your dish but the dish was just not right. Catherine tucked into hers as she made the right choice!

The service was something else in itself. After falling in lust with our waiter and his Ed Nortonesque beard he was back and forth darting from table to table enabling our view! Yum! Even if the food wasn’t!

breathless views

Sufficiently stuffed we couldn’t leave before going to the seaside – we were in Brighton after all. And what better time than sundown. We were able to get some fabulous pictures of the sun setting and as some of you might know already Brighton is so wonderfully beautiful at sunset.

tatty bye bye

A rare picture of me tucked in up there on the left! Not the most fashion forward photo but the cold took over me and the layers were necessary! We grabbed some candy floss and a large bag of other tasty treats and waved goodbye to Brighton for another day. With a heavy heart we made our exit under the arches before the darkness really set in and we were in the pitch black on one of England’s worst roads! No lights.

Thank you Brighton we will be back soon!

Snail Mail, Email, SMS etc . . .

Getting tangled in the snail mail

Gone are the days that we receive piles or even a few letters from those who are far and wide across the globe. Email is becoming obsolete in front of our eyes as instant messaging takes over and with every flash on your mobile phone a new message is received.

I really do miss the excitement of opening up a letter that has just dropped onto the door mat and wondering what it says. Throughout the year there are a couple of swaps (postcards and Christmas cards) that I take part in with the blogging community. This year I am going to try and send out a card or letter each month to a random person in my address book just to reach out and hopefully put a smile on their face for that day.

pile of letters with ribbon

You know when you get those days that you just need that little something extra to give you a pep in your step, well hopefully that will help. Once a month isn’t too big of a commitment to keep so hopefully I can keep it up. There was a stationery set that I saw online that I have now lost and am unable to find but you know what it is about what is on the letter not what it is written on.

air mail letters

One of my favourite films with Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks is the well-known You’ve Got Mail. Even such a film is set in the time when snail mail was on the way to redundant and the internet was just catching on. Online chat was taking the world by storm. Either way two people are conversing and taking the time out to send thoughtful messages with some meaning.

Do you guys like written letters? What will you be sending out this year? If anything!

Merry Christmas Everyone

Just a little note to say Merry Christmas everybody. Things are a little disorientated over here as I am spending the holidays away from home. So far the day has been a little weird but good overall. This is the time of year that I really am thankful for the relationship I have with my family. I love my mum and dad very much but the relationship I have with my dad will always shine through as we have always been and will remain incredibly close.

Mum & Dad I love you very much and Merry Christmas.

Have a great day everyone.new-year-candles-wallpaper

It’s Monday . . .

Good Morning with coffee

This week is a big one for me. My last four shifts at my current job before I am on annual leave over the Christmas period. This year I get to spend Christmas not only with my immediate family but with my lovely family that are from the US. Here I come Washington and NYC! Excited doesn’t even cover it!

Apparently it is freezing over there so I will be packing for the likes of the arctic and with some extra room for shopping (of course!). I will be travelling for the first time with my laptop and camera so I am hoping to get some amazing pictures. There are a couple of sights that I aim to see but I wont mention them just in case I don’t get the chance.

One thing that I will most definitely be indulging in is NY coffee. The atmosphere, the people, the weather and the decor out there will be extremely overwhelming – however it will be a very welcome sight.

Back to reality then . . .

Books

Currently Reading

Inferno - UK cover

I am going to give this book another 4-5 days before I put it to one side. It has taken up so much of my time so far and it is not that I am not enjoying it I just think I should have finished it by now. The point where your dad is reading the same book and over takes you says something!

Up Next

A Winter Flame by Milly Johnson

Getting into the Christmas spirit is always a little easier when reading some light fiction about this lovely time of year and listening to christmas songs. That is exactly how I plan on getting through this book.

Secret Santa Gift 2012

This book was actually a gift from my Broke & Bookish Secret Santa last year – Sarah from Reader, Writer, Nerd. So what a better time to get stuck in.

Skin Care

Kiehls-Creme-de-Corps-Eric-Haze-editionI am actually in LOVE with this luscious skin cream as once I have applied it in the morning it works right hard through the day until I get home at night. The fact that the air system at work dries out my skin, hair and anything else that is exposed to it. It is a small wonder to find something that keeps my skin moisturised for more than 12 hours. Good job Kiehl’s!

What’s going on with you guys?
